Card Technology Research Centre (CTRC)

The Card Technology Research Centre (CTRC) at Campus Services, Waterford Institute of Technology is the leading industrial research centre in card technology in Ireland. The CTRC was established to create a centre of excellence in research, innovation, design and training in a wide field that includes: card technology, campus solutions, standardisation and interoperability of card systems. The CTRC has been involved in numerous projects throughout Ireland, the UK and the USA.

Some key projects include:  

  • Research and development of card interfaces for use in cashless parking facilities throughout the US
  • Research and development of a sports stadium solution for stadia in Ireland
  • Research and development of campus card systems and a wide range of the associated client applications for HE Institutions in Ireland and the UK
  • Research and development of an interface for Xerox’s Extensible Interface Platform (EIP)
  • The lead RTD performer on the EECS Card Management System Project (No. 232324)
